About & FAQ
ABOUT US

We are connecting the affected hospitality workforce with local non-profits to serve and provide hunger relief to the NOLA community.

The COVID-19 crisis has severely impacted the New Orleans service industry and put our already at-risk populations in desperate need of meals. The non-profit organizations that serve so much of this population are experiencing a spike in the need for volunteers to meet the escalating demand for their services.

Get Shift Done NOLA was launched to address both affected service workers who have lost their paychecks and provide immediate support for the demand of our nonprofit partners, especially with respect to hunger relief.

Three critical needs in one initiative: stabilizing incomes, hunger relief & non-profit surge support

We are using the Shiftsmart platform to connect volunteers, supporters and non-profits to deliver these essential functions and provide basic incomes and food security for affected children and families. And, by providing a skilled, at-the-ready workforce, we can support the non-profits, school systems and other hunger relief programs with efficient and effective help to meet the surge in demand.

The Get Shift Done initiative was created with the goal of bringing critical stability to communities. Affected populations, businesses, organizations, and non-profits are activated on a local level and empowered to provide services in the communities they call home.

What we did in New Orleans

  • Created the Gift Shift Done for NOLA at the New Orleans Business Alliance with the intent to provide wages to hourly workers to fulfill these shifts. All remaining funds will be used to support nonprofit organizations that provide workforce development and hunger relief. The New Orleans Business Alliance is the official public-private partnership created to increase economic gains for the city of New Orleans. Through a direct partnership with the City of New Orleans and strong connectivity with the business community, the New Orleans Business Alliance works to ensure the economic security of all New Orleanians by diversifying the local economy, developing local talent, and expanding entrepreneurial opportunity. Through an inclusive economic development strategy, we will create a more equitable and prosperous future for all. Learn more at www.nolaba.org.
  • Partnered with restaurant industry leaders to offer their staff shifts at NOLA based non-profit organizations preparing, assembling, and delivering meals.
  • Launched a team and special program leveraging the Shiftsmart platform to onboard, train, schedule, dispatch, route, and pay the assigned workers to perform these shifts at the non-profits.

We would like your financial support to bridge this temporary gap for our fellow citizens.  You can help by donating to the Get Shift Done Fund for New Orleans.

FAQ

Who is Get Shift Done

What is the mission of Get Shift Done?

Get Shift Done is connecting the hospitality workforce affected by the COVID-19 virus with local non-profits to serve and provide hunger relief to New Orleans communities.

How is Get Shift Done going to accomplish its mission?

Get Shift Done was launched to employ affected hourly workers in the hospitality industry to perform shifts for non-profit organizations and institutions in need during the COVID-19 crisis.

Where/how can I find more information about Get Shift Done?

Visit GetShiftDone.org and continue to check back for updates.

Who is Get Shift Done trying to help?

Both the nonprofits whose volunteers were not coming to work due to the COVID-19 virus outbreak and the hospitality workers who were displaced from their jobs due to the mandatory closing of restaurants.

Why is Get Shift Done doing this?

When less volunteers were coming to work their shifts at food banks and other non-profit agencies dedicated to serving the food insecure, we saw an opportunity of filling those shifts with those from the food service industry and paying them an hourly wage.

Non-profit Partners

Your web page says Get Shift Done is targeting relief for the NOLA area, can other areas participate?

At this point in time, we are targeting the Greater New Orleans Area, with emphasis on Orleans Parish. Non-profits outside of that footprint are not currently eligible to participate. If you’re from another area and would like to learn more about the program, please send us an email.

What type of non-profit can register to ask for help from Get Shift Done?

We need to work with non-profits who are already accepting food donations, managing the distribution of the food and have facilities large enough to have many workers at a time working shifts.

Is there any criteria to register my non-profit that needs help preparing and delivering meals?

Details about this are included in our app platform.  You can learn more by completing our registration process within the app itself.

After I register my non-profit to request workers, what happens next?

We are working individually with non-profits to address their volunteer needs.  Shifts are assigned after going through our onboarding process.

Can any non-profit register to request workers from Get Shift Done?

We prefer to have non-profits that are already serving the food insecure and have a need for more volunteers to meet the number of meals required for their community.

Hospitality Workers

Is there any prior experience criteria required to register as a displaced worker?

We are supporting workers from the hospitality industry.

What documents will I need to register as a displaced worker?

Details about this are included in our app platform.  You can learn more by completing our registration process within the app itself.

After I register as a displaced worker, what happens next and how/when will I get paid?

Do I need a vehicle if I’m asked to deliver meals?

We have displaced workers who are using public transportation to get to participating Food Banks to work shifts.  If you do not have a vehicle, you will not be matched to deliver meals.
