The Washington Nationals are helping to connect laid-off workers with local nonprofits feeding the community
The Washington Nationals organization is stepping up to do its part in helping the community during the coronavirus crisis. On April 23, Tal Alter, CEO of Nationals Philanthropies & Youth Baseball Academy announced the launch of Nationals Philanthropies and the organization’s newest partnership with Get Shift Done.
A recently launched national app, Get Shift Done coordinates, schedules and pays recently laid-off workers in the hospitality industry to work shifts for local food access nonprofits across the country.
The program in the DMV provides $15 an hour to workers who will be picking up shifts to help provide meals for residents in need. The first batch of workers in the region will report for their first day of work on Saturday, April 25, and more shifts are being added on a rolling basis.
The Get Shift Done initiative hopes to stabilize incomes, provide hunger relief and promote nonprofit support during the coronavirus pandemic. For more information, or to register for a shift, visit getshiftdone.org/dmv.
